Assembling the Davenport Body Kit

The engine hood is 1.125 (1 1/8") too long, but that was by design.  By notching the body shell the cab locks into it, creating a much more rigid assembly.  I used a $20 harbor freight die grinder with cut-off wheel to create this notch.

Begin by marking a line 1.125" from the end of the hood, and slowly cutting through it.

Almost finished.  The cut needs to extend two inches below the top of the hood.

A 22 gauge x 1 inch strap can be spot welded or riveted to the front.  This provides the mechanical connection between the shell and the plastic nose molding.  The strap extends 1/4" past the front of the hood.  Some trimming may be necessary around the corners

The bar clamp is used to coax the hood to the shape of the nose molding.  I am using 3/32" blind rivets, working from the top center.  These are domed, but countersunk would have been better suited.

The front grill must be bent out to create the final product.  Shown are the tools that I use.

Working from both sides, two or three passes are needed to bend all the grill pieces out 90 degrees.
